Performance Matters
Exceeding Industry Standards through Reliable Research and Development
Tnemec is heavily invested in the development of innovative coatings designed to solve specific industry challenges, and has been for over 100 years. By focusing on performance testing and using top-of-the-line equipment, Tnemec ensures that every product offered by our company is well-suited to exceed expectation in its intended exposure.
Using only high-quality binders, resins, pigments and additives, Tnemec products are formulated to perform both in accelerated testing protocols and in the field. Our company tests and retests every product – following industry-recognized testing standards, like ASTM B117, ASTM D 4587, etc. – to qualify each coating’s ability to resist corrosion, UV light, abrasion and other causes of coating degradation.
With this emphasis on performance, Tnemec coatings and linings help protect structures all around the world and continue to provide long life-cycles and limited maintenance wherever they are applied. We know asset protection is what matters most for our customers, and that's exactly why we believe that formulation matters, testing matters and, above all else, performance matters.
From Our Suppliers
Tnemec is truly invested in its quality brand. When we present Tnemec With new materials for improved performance, its team completes extensive, long-term scientific study on the materials to ensure the performance is real and reproducible. From the lab to the field, Tnemec checks consistency and performance at every step to make certain its customers receive a high-quality product.

Not All Coatings Are Created Equal
Coating formulations are comprised of many ingredients: resins, curing agents, extenders, additives, color pigments, and solvents. Each one of these ingredients is, in turn, offered by multiple raw material suppliers who may have an entire line of products to choose from. This creates an exponential number of possible formula combinations. While coatings can be grouped into a generic chemistry family, they may be formulated completely different and offer different application characteristics and performance.
-
Extensive Testing to Ensure Coating Performance
Tnemec believes subjecting a coating, and various coating systems, to numerous tests provides our customers with a more complete performance profile of the product. No one coating is superior in all facets and extensive testing over a wide array of test methods highlights a product’s strong and weak points, allowing for the needed criteria on which to base an educated selection and specification. In the end, the careful analysis of comprehensive product performance data, taken from a multitude of tests, is the best way to determine true differences in coatings.

Providing a Basis for Coating Comparison
Accelerated laboratory tests are intended to stress a coating and prematurely degrade it. This could be due to exceptionally high UV exposure (ASTM D 4587) or corrosive conditions (ASTM D 5894). The usefulness of these tests is that they are standardized, so data can be easily compared among several products and multiple manufacturers to determine their performance attributes. Additionally, products tested on a particular performance attribute (i.e. gloss retention) over several different tests (EMMAQUA, QUV, South Florida) can provide meaningful assurance that one product will outperform another in an actual exterior exposure condition.
